With the drawn down of troops from Iraq and Afghanistan, cities and towns will welcome home more than 1 million veterans. These men and women will join the more than 20 million veterans in the United States who have served our country since World War II who are already a part of our communities. Like everyone, veterans need accessible and affordable homes as foundations for success and reintegration.

To help cities meet the housing needs of all veterans, the National League of Cities is hosting a webinar focusing on the solutions to provide housing for disabled veterans across the “disability spectrum”.

The Housing Assistance Council and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, Atlanta Field Office invite you to participate in Becoming a High Performing CHDO on October 2-3, 2012 in Macon, GA.

This training is designed to help improve performance under the HOME Program, topics covered include CHDO and HOME basics, redefining the PJ‐CHDO relationship, are you set‐up to be a successful developer, selecting good CHDO projects, CHDO project implementation, and ensuring long‐term project and CHDO survival. Discussion will include recent updates to the HOME program.

Due to funding restrictions this training is limited to staff of certified CHDOs, potential CHDOs and PJs in Georgia. Additionally, participants are required to register in advance for this event.

Adding ‘green’, ‘sustainable’ or ‘active/passive energy efficient’ techniques to development planning can take many forms to meet specific goals, particularly the affordability of up-front and long-term costs. This webinar will provide a brief overview of both the 184 and 502 programs followed by examples of how each program can be effectively utilized to build sustainable green housing (to include discussion on building activities on Native American Lands). Participants will gain from in-depth discussion on various types of construction, from conventional to manufactured, as well as, those being used by tribal organizations across the country such as straw bale, hogans, and advanced framing methods to meet green guidelines developed by each individual tribe for their specific locality. This webinar will also provide a brief overview of the latest Energy Star and Water Sense compliance standards.
