Construction Management and Advanced Financial Management

The Housing Assistance Council and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, Portland Field Office invite you to participate in Building Rural Communities through CHDOs on December 5-6, in Eugene, OR.

Construction Management

This class is designed for managers of rehabilitation and new construction programs. The course covers key aspects of running rehabilitation and construction programs such as implementing housing standards, reviewing inspections, resolving construction disputes, and ensuring that units comply with HOME requirements regarding cost and quality. The course will also focus on making strategic decisions related to staffing, organizing, and managing your construction programs. For PJ program managers charged with overseeing any type of construction program, this course provides a unique opportunity to share ideas and strategies with colleagues from other PJs.

Advanced Financial Management

This workshop is specially designed for experienced staff – typically those who have successfully completed some form of introductory financial management training – with accounting and financial management responsibilities for rural Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDOs) and other housing development agencies. Participants will gain a greater understanding of financial policies and procedures, cost allocation, cash flow management, ratio analysis, and financial management strategy. The training builds upon HAC’s Sharpening Your Skills: Financial Management for Rural CHDOs training.

Attendance at theis event is limited to CHDOs, Potential CHDOs and PJs in the jurisdiction of the Portland Field HUD Office. Furthermore, due to funding restrictions, participants are required to register in advance for this training.

Section 502 Packaging Training for Nonprofit Developers

Join the Housing Assistance Council on November 8-10, 2011 for the Section 502 Packaging Training for Nonprofit Developers, a valuable training event for any organization that packages or plans to package USDA Rural Development Section 502 Loans.

This three-day advanced course covers USDA Rural Development’s Section 502 direct loan program and provides invaluable insight as to how this homeownership financing resource can be used. Learn how to assist potential borrowers and work in partnership with RD staff and other nonprofit organizations and regional intermediaries to deliver successful Section 502 loan packages. Through the course, open to and designed for those experienced in using Section 502, participants will learn the regulations and practical applications of the loan program. Participants will develop a strong understanding of 502 direct underwriting and packaging standards. Participants are encouraged to take the exam after the course.

RSH Grant Walkthrough

A Guide to the Housing Assistance Council’s Rural Senior Housing Grant Application

Interested in applying for Rural Senior Housing (RSH) Initiative grant? If so, join the Housing Assistance Council for a webinar that will provide information for quickly and correctly completing and submitting an application. The goal of this training session will be to assist applicants and to answer any question that will help applicants further understand HAC’s RSH program. We will discuss organizational and project eligibility, measuring outcomes, and provide some insight into HAC’s review process.

Participation is open to the first 80 registrants. Registrants are encouraged to submit their questions regarding the RSH Application ahead of time to janice@ruralhome.org.

2011 Regional Forum on Workforce Housing: Bring Workers Home

Join experts and practitioners from around the region to explore housing affordability and other issues at Bring Workers Home: 2011 Regional Forum on Workforce Housing, a one-day event hosted by the National Association of REALTORS® and the National Housing Conference.

Bring Workers Home will explore a core set of issues, including:

  • Learning how to create and sustain a workforce housing programs in your community.
  • Understanding the importance of advancing workforce housing through local and regional partnerships.
  • Exploring workforce housing issues from the perspective of employers.
  • Hearing from other practitioners and advocates managing successful workforce housing strategies.

Bring Workers Home is designed to attract a wide range of attendees, including employers and HR professionals, REALTORS®, urban and regional planners, housing and community development leaders, local elected and appointed officials, state HFA representatives and others.
