HAC Research Helps Make the Case for Rural Rental Preservation in Idaho
Mercy Housing, Inc. (MHI) and Mercy Loan Fund (MLF) have partnered to preserve 55 affordable homes in Moscow, Idaho. The project will focus on completing necessary rehabilitation work on the Hawthorne Village Apartments, which houses residents who make between 50 and 80 percent of area median income.
The piece makes reference to HAC’s research in stating that nearly half of rural renters are cost burdened. “At a time when affordable rural housing stock is becoming increasingly scarce, it is essential that we preserve affordable homes such as those at Hawthorne Village Apartments,” said Jason Battista, President of MLF.
HAC works to support efforts like this across the United States and applauds MLF for their work to strengthen rural communities.
