Affordable housing has decreased nationwide and has impacted the rural communities. According to HUD’s 2020 Annual Homeless Assessment Report (AHAR), 7% of the homeless population were in rural areas. Homelessness in rural areas is not the traditional definition, due to the lack of homeless services such as shelters and transitional housing, people often live with family members or friends. Permanent Supportive Housing provides a long-term solutions of affordable housing units for individuals and allows access to supportive services for vulnerable populations.
Information will be provided on challenges and opportunities with rural supportive housing, supportive housing models, supportive housing strategies.
