HAC Awards Nearly $260,000 for Rural Senior Housing

Washington, D.C., March 26, 2013 – The Housing Assistance Council (HAC) has selected 16 organizations from 15 states to receive $257,000 in grants to develop or preserve 418 units of affordable housing for seniors in rural communities across the country.

Made possible with generous support from The Atlantic Philanthropies, these grants will allow the 16 nonprofit rural organizations throughout the U.S. to use funding for construction projects, build internal capacity, preserveof affordable rental and homeownership properties, and strengthen advocacy efforts for affordable rural senior housing.

The grants are part of HAC’s Atlantic funded Rural Senior Housing Initiative. Its goal is to improve the quality, safety and availability of affordable rural housing for low- and very-low income seniors. “The people of rural America are, on average, older than people in the rest of the country,” said Moises Loza, HAC’s Executive Director. “HAC is proud, through the Rural Senior Housing Initiative, to be able to build the capacity of local organizations and ensure they have the ability to meet the increasing demand for affordable senior housing in their communities.”
