HAC Offers Capacity Building Aid in Rural Areas

Washington, DC, Jul. 31, 2013 – The Housing Assistance Council (HAC) offers help with affordable rural housing and community development in rural America. In partnership with HUD’s program of Rural Capacity Building for Affordable Housing, HAC will help rural housing development organizations, local governments, and tribal organizations improve capacity with a range of tools – national and regional training events, loans and grants, a national newsletter, one-on-one technical aid, regular e-learnings, an extensive web site with practical information, a rural data portal, and other detailed information resources. This approach aims to support local groups as they build or preserve affordable housing and promote community development for low-income persons and households in rural areas.

Moises Loza, HAC’s Executive Director said, “HAC is very pleased to partner with HUD in this effort. It will provide support to local rural housing organizations, and help build up new activity in areas that currently have little capacity.”

HAC will offer its aid in all of rural America, and will also continue to offer specific capacity building help for the Mississippi Delta and rural Southeast, the Southwest border colonias, Native American areas, farmworker and self-help housing, green and sustainable housing, senior housing and housing for rural veterans. “Successful nonprofit rural housing organizations have had a huge impact,” said Loza. “But in other very needy regions, nonprofits lack capacity, skills, experience, and resources.”

More information and resources are available on HAC’s web site at www.ruralhome,org.
