Letter to Congress Says Don't Cut Discretionary Programs
“Support a balanced approach to deficit reduction that does not include further cuts to discretionary programs.” That was the key message in a letter signed by HAC and 3,200 other organizations around the country, working together in a coalition called NDD United. On Monday, February 11, 2013, the letter was sent to every member of Congress, the White House, and the media.
The NDD in the coalition’s name stands for non-defense discretionary, meaning the non-Pentagon federal spending that will be cut by 5.1 percent on March 1 unless Congress takes action to avoid sequestration.
