Community Action Agencies (Searchable by State) – Community Action has been a vibrant, proactive network for 45 years—helping people, changing lives, and making American a better place to live. They provide assistance locally including rehab and weatherization programs.

Emergency Food & Shelter Program – A division of the United Way, this program was created in 1983 to supplement the work of local social service organizations within the United States, both private and governmental, to help people in need of emergency assistance.

Enterprise Community Partners – National, nonprofit housing and community development organization dedicated to bringing lasting improvements to distressed communities. Through a network of more than 1,100 nonprofit, community-based organizations in more than 400 locations, Enterprise is helping build a national movement to promote housing and community development in low-income neighborhoods.

Habitat for Humanity – Provides information about Habitat’s volunteer-driven work to build low-income housing, including where they build, how the process works, and how people can get involved.

National Association of Development Organizations – NADO provides advocacy, education, research and training for the nation’s regional development organizations. Building on nearly four decades of experience, the association offers its members exclusive access to a variety of services and benefits — all of which are designed to enhance the ability of regional development organizations to foster “regional solutions” to local government, business and community needs.

Payday Loan Consumer Information – Consumer Federation of America provides an information resource on payday lending for consumers and advocates. Payday loans are extremely expensive cash advances that must be repaid in full on the borrower’s next payday to keep the personal check required to secure the loan from bouncing. Cash-strapped consumers run the risk of becoming trapped in repeat borrowing due to triple-digit interest rates, unaffordable repayment terms, and coercive collection tactics made possible by check-holding. Rebuilding Together, Inc – Rebuilding Together is a nonprofit organization working to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize communities. Their network of more than 200 affiliates provides free rehabilitation and critical repairs to the homes
