HUD has announced $16.83 million in funding
for the Rural Housing and Economic Development (RHED)
program. The purpose of these funds are to build capacity
at the state and local level for rural housing and economic
development, and to support innovative housing and economic
development activities in rural areas.

receipt of FY 2007 RHED funds. If necessary, upon receipt

will sign a legally binding commitment.

to rehabilitate 10 homes owned by low-income senior
citizens. As you are aware, in its 9-year history Shalom
Volunteer Ministry has coordinated and utilized thousands
of volunteers to rehabilitate more than 400 single-family
homes in Carbondale and rural Illinois.
If your organization's Rural Housing and
Economic Development application is successful, Shalom
Volunteer Ministry will contribute 5,000 hours of volunteer
labor to rehabilitate homes owned by low-income senior
citizens. According to The Illinois Department of Labor,
this volunteer labor is valued at $1.00 per hour, for
a total commitment worth $5,000. Shalom Volunteer Ministry's
commitment to the proposed project is contingent only
upon the receipt of FY 2007 RHED funds. If necessary,
