HUD RHED 2007
Sample Letters

HUD has announced $16.83 million in funding for the Rural Housing and Economic Development (RHED) program. The purpose of these funds are to build capacity at the state and local level for rural housing and economic development, and to support innovative housing and economic development activities in rural areas.

The application deadline is May 23, 2007

 

Sample Letter #1:

SOUTHSIDE VIRGINIA BANK & TRUST LETTERHEAD

Dear Ms. Smith:

Southside Virginia Bank & Trust is pleased to provide this letter of support and commitment for ABC Housing Organization's Rural Housing and Economic Development application and its affordable housing development activities in Halifax County, Virginia.
Southside Virginia Bank & Trust owns a three-acre tract of land at the intersection of Oak Street and Fifth Avenue in Nathalie. According to the County tax records and a recent appraisal (attached), the land is worth $30,000. Southside Virginia Bank & Trust will sell the land to ABC Housing Organization for $15,000, or 50% of the appraised value, for the development of multi-family housing for low-income persons.

This offer is contingent only upon the receipt of FY 2007 RHED funds. If necessary, upon receipt of an RHED award, Southside Virginia Bank & Trust will sign a legally binding commitment.

SHALOM VOLUNTEER MINISTRY LETTERHEAD

Shalom Volunteer Ministry is excited about the opportunity to partner with ABC Housing Organization to rehabilitate 10 homes owned by low-income senior citizens. As you are aware, in its 9-year history Shalom Volunteer Ministry has coordinated and utilized thousands of volunteers to rehabilitate more than 400 single-family homes in Carbondale and rural Illinois.

If your organization's Rural Housing and Economic Development application is successful, Shalom Volunteer Ministry will contribute 5,000 hours of volunteer labor to rehabilitate homes owned by low-income senior citizens. According to The Illinois Department of Labor, this volunteer labor is valued at $1.00 per hour, for a total commitment worth $5,000. Shalom Volunteer Ministry's commitment to the proposed project is contingent only upon the receipt of FY 2007 RHED funds. If necessary, upon receipt of an RHED award, Shalom Volunteer Ministry will sign a legally binding commitment.
