Description
By leveraging smart building techniques, utilizing volunteers, and implementing a sweat equity component, rural affordable housing developers can help offset some of the rising construction costs and labor shortage issues they’re currently experiencing.
During this two-part series, training attendees will take factory tours, learn about innovative construction technology, visit peer organizations, and share best practices. The discussion will include the benefits and drawbacks of tiny homes, panelized and pre-built construction options, 3-D printing, sweat-equity, and volunteer labor.
Session I Highlights:

Attendees will visit, Boxable, a leading manufacturer of tiny homes that unfold out of shipping containers and Gigacrete, a high-impact, green and abuse-resistant building coating company. An afternoon session will include training and discussion on using volunteers and sweat equity as a labor solution. - Wednesday, August 24th – 8:00 am – 5:30 pm
Chicanos Por La Causa, our peer organization, will host training participants at their Las Vegas office and visit projects under construction. They will highlight some of their most successful programs, like YouthBuild. - Thursday, August 25th – 8:00 am – 12:30 pm
