Join HAC this October in Richmond, VA for a two and half day training!

By leveraging smart building techniques, utilizing volunteers, and implementing a sweat equity component, rural affordable housing developers can help offset some of the rising construction costs and labor shortage issues that they’re currently experiencing.

This is a continuation of the Smart Building Peer Exchange that was held in August. Training attendees will take factory tours, learn about innovative construction technology, visit with peer organizations, share best practices, and discuss the benefits and drawbacks of tiny homes, panelized and pre-built construction options and 3-D printing.

Session II Highlights:

  • Attendees will visit Cardinal Homes, a modular home manufacturing facility, and installation sites with opportunities to interact with manufacturing leaders and practitioners; as well as additional training sessions discussing utilizing sweat equity and smart building techniques.
  • Learn about 3-D printed homes, visit peer host sites, with a feature session by the Virginia Center for Housing Research presenting research studies highlighting the take-aways and data from a recent 3-D printed demonstration program completed in partnership with Alquist, Virginia Tech, and Project:HOMES.
  • Attendees will visit a pre-assembled components factory and installation sites with opportunities to interact with manufacturing leaders and practitioners,; trainers will lead additional sessions about how attendees can integrate programs such as Job Corps (US Dept. Of Forestry), AmeriCorps, and Vocational training programs into their local construction program to address labor shortages and rising costs.

The session will begin at 8:00 am on Tuesday, Oct. 25, and finish up at noon on Thursday, Oct. 27.

* Registration is limited to 25 participants.  HAC kindly requests that groups limit registration to two people per organization.
